Southern Railway to introduce eleven new trains
Southern Railway will introduce eleven new trains, including two 'Garib Rath Express' by next month. Apart from the new trains, Southern Railwa y will also speed up six trains, extend the services of five trains, and increase frequency of the Rajdhani Express which runs between Thiruvanathapuram and New Delhi stations.
Releasing Southern Railway's new time-table, R Velu, Minister of State for Railways, said, “Out of the 52 trains to be introduced this year in India, 12 will be introduced by Southern Railway. The new trains will cater to the increasing number of passengers on various routes.” Commenting on Chennai's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) which operates between Velacherry and Beach stations, Velu said that the system earns revenue to the tune of Rs nine crore per month for Southern Railway .
